2017 Academy Awards Red Carpet

On Sunday, February 26, the 89th annual Academy Awards took place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. Jimmy Kimmel was this year’s host, and the big winners of the evening were “Moonlight”, Emma Stone, and Casey Affleck. The red carpet was overall very good this year. Here is a look of some of the looks from the event.

Janelle Monae is Elie Saab Couture

Singer and actress Janelle Monae wore an Elie Saab couture gown to the event. While it is not my personal preference, it fits the actresses’ quirky style and stays in line with her only black and white dresses.

Karlie Kloss in Stella McCartney

Model Karlie Kloss wore a white Stella McCartney gown. I love the simplicity of this look, and the diamond choker compliments the dress beautifully.

Brie Larson in Oscar de la Renta

Last year’s Oscar winner for Best Actress, Brie Larson, wore a custom Oscar de la Renta black velvet gown. The gown was simple and pretty, but it is not my favorite look that she has worn throughout this award’s season.

Viola Davis in Armani Prive

This year’s winner for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Viola Davis, wore a custom made Armani Prive gown. The color looked amazing on her and the top draws you to her amazing arms. I love the silver clutch is chose to pair it with as well.

Naomie Harris in Calvin Klein by Appointment

Moonlight’s Naomie Harris wore one of the first designs from Raf Simmons at Calvin Klein. I loved this look because it was a simple white dress but the extra layer in the back gives it a cooler look.

Ruth Negga in Valentino

Actress and nominee Ruth Negga wore a red Valentino gown. This is a simple design and it looked beautiful on her.

Michelle Williams and Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton

Nominee Michelle Williams and last year’s Best Supporting Actress winner Alicia Vikander both wore custom made Louis Vuitton gowns. As faces of the brand, they are contractually obligated to wear the brand as well. I love the simple elegance of both of these gowns. Nicholas Ghesquiere dresses both actresses frequently so he was able to match their personal styles perfectly with these designs. To me, Alicia had the better gown of the night.

Taraji P. Henson in Alberta Ferretti

Actress Taraji P. Henson looked amazing in a navy blue velvet gown by Alberta Ferretti. The dress fit her body perfectly, and the necklace she is wearing looks matches so well. This is her best look ever on a red carpet.

Emma Stone in Givenchy Couture

Best Actress winner Emma Stone wore a custom gown by Givenchy. It is one of the last designs by Ricardo Tisci for the house and this dress was perfect. It fit Emma so perfectly, and paid homage to her role in La La Land.

My favorite looks from the Oscar’s were definitely Emma Stone and Taraji P. Henson. What were yours??
